Digital ID implications for the probate process

The government is consulting on how digital IDs could make public services quicker, easier and more secure to access. 
 
Digital IDs could reduce the need for multiple telephone calls, form filling and repetition. These are all common when you’re dealing with the probate process. 
Fingerprints and other biometric data could become part of a UK digital ID scheme.

Probate delays still continue

The probate process takes a long time after you've laid flowers on a loved one's gravestone.
Concerns continue about probate application delays. The government says it has put measures in place to speed up the probate process. 
 
Despite the government’s target to complete probate applications within 16 weeks, delays mean it can still take up to a year.
